The Adult Basic Skills Development (ABSD) program helps students achieve their goal of getting their high school diploma or GED, brushing up skills to get into college, or learning English. Classes are located throughout Douglas County, with the Woolley Center in Roseburg serving as the main office location. ABSD classes feature professional instruction, a variety of materials, a focus on technology at many sites, a school-to-career component, a tutoring program, and help transitioning to college.
Students must be at least 16 years of age. Students under the age of 18 must first see their high school counselor for a referral to the program or a release from compulsory attendance.

General Education Development (GED)
The GED is a certificate of high school equivalency awarded by the Oregon Department of Education. To obtain it you must pass a series of five tests. The tests cover writing, reading, science, social studies, and math. UCC offers classes throughout Douglas County to help you prepare for the tests. Classes are currently held in the following locations:
Students who take the placement test and score below secondary level (ninth grade) in reading are placed into pre-GED or Adult Basic Education (ABE) classes. These classes are $10 per term and focus on developing reading, writing, and mathematical skills. There is also a strong emphasis on developing work and life skills. Classes are held at the Workforce Training Center.
The college campus is the official GED test center for Douglas County. Tests are given each week, but students must first make an appointment by calling (541)440-4610. The test fee is $85 for the full battery of five tests.
Adult High School Diploma
There are several options available to students who would like to earn their high school diploma. The Woolley Center in Roseburg offers classes that are teacher-led and run in five or ten week sessions. There is also an online program for students whose schedule does not allow them to attend class. Outreach sites in Drain, Glide, and Myrtle Creek offer classes in packet-format, so students can work on their own pace. There is also a program at UCC, where students can earn both college and high school credit simultaneously while taking college-level classes (these students are not eligible for financial aid).
Students under the age of 18 must speak to their high school counselor before registering for classes. Students under 18 may be eligible for a referral, or if they are trying to recover credits, the counselor will recommend classes. An entry test is required for all UCC high school diploma students. To sign up for this test and register for class, please call (541)440-4603.
Skill Review
The Adult Basic Skills Development program also helps students who have graduated from high school or earned their GED, but need to brush up on their skills in order to enter college or excel at their workplace. Most Skill Review students are integrated with the GED students, but the instructor provides individualized lesson plans emphasizing the student's particular needs. Skill Review classes are $40 per term. For more information on these classes, please call (541)440-4603.
English As A Second Language
Both morning and evening English as a Second Language (ESL) classes are available to adults whose native language is not English. Classes are held in Roseburg.
English as a Second Language (ESL) classes are separated into beginning, intermediate, and advanced levels. Placement into these classes is determined after an initial placement test. Classes stress skills in speaking, listening, reading and writing. The ESL classes also include workplace and life skills to help students become effective members of the community.
There is also a day and evening United States Citizenship class in Roseburg available to all temporary residents and resident aliens.
The Citizenship class traces the history and development of the United States and its government. The class assists students in filling out the citizenship application and provides instruction on the material covered in the interview. ESL and citizenship classes are $10 per term.
