ESL INSTRUCTOR

Responsible to:  Dean of Academic Development

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

  • Responsible for teaching skills in reading, speaking, writing, listening, pronunciation, consumer skills, survival skills, pre-vocational skills and social behaviors through individual, small group and large group instruction. Classes are split into levels based on student's ability.
  • Assess student needs and prescribe appropriate course work.
  • Develop class lessons.
  • Administer Title II Assessments and learn CASAS Accountability system.
  • Administer benchmark tests to determine individual progress in reading, listening and writing.
  • Track student progress and attendance.
  • Register students, administer tests and update records.
  • Maintain a cooperative, professional attitude with fellow staff members and students.
  • Assist with the development, implementation and monitoring of program goals and activities.
  • Responsible for effective classroom management.
  • Recruit and supervise volunteer assignments.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the ABSD director or ABSD coordinator.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in English, ESL, Linguistics, Education or related field required.
  • Teaching experience in ESL and Adult Basic Education preferred.

    SALARY:
    $21.63 per hour, 9-12 hrs/wk 2008-09 Part-Time Instructor Salary Schedule, Base
