Emergency Medical Technology

Associate of Applied Science Degree Program

Umpqua Community College offers an Associate of Applied Science Degree in Emergency Medical Technology. The EMT Basic certification is offered in a two term format known as EMT A and EMT B. An accelerated EMT Basic is also offered. Successful completion of either the two term or accelerated EMT Basic program qualifies the student to take the state certification examination. Admission to the EMT Basic A and B levels is open to the general student population. However the student must be 18 years of age to take the state certification examination.

PARAMEDIC PROGRAM: Admission to the Paramedic program requires the student to make a separate application through the Office of Admission and Records. The application will be available from the first day of winter term to the last day of winter term. Admission to the Paramedic A course will be based upon:

  • Applicants must show (a) Evidence of completion of CH 104 or CH 112 at UCC or any other college level chemistry at the time of admission to the program. Note: MTH 95 is the corequisite to CH 104 & MTH 65 is the prerequisite for CH 112; (b) score into RD 90 or higher on the placement exam; and (c) score MTH 65 (Elem. Algebra) or above. Prerequisite for chemistry should be taken prior to program admission.
  • Applicants must have completed EMT Basic A and B with a grade of "C" or better. Note: If the applicant is currently enrolled in EMT Basic B and making satisfactory progress they will be considered for admission.
  • Applicants must present evidence of good physical health and provide written official proof of the following immunizations prior to beginning class: Hepatitis B (must have first injection of three shot series. If series completed more than six months ago, must provide results of titer test). MMR (measles/mumps/rubella), if born after 1956. TB Screening Test (must be within the last 6 months).
  • Up to eighty percent of those accepted will be residents of the UCC district, at the time of application.
