Coach Kromer joins the UCC Basketball staff as Head Assistant Coach after spending sometime away from basketball in the health care profession. The native of Gresham, Oregon has spent many years as both a player and Coach at the Professional and Collegiate ranks. Kromer started his playing career at Gresham High School where he lead his team to the State Tournament. He went on to play at Lane Community College and become an all-conference player under Oregon Hall of Fame Coach Jim Boutin. He would later transfer to Oregon Institute of Technology (OIT) and lead the team to the NAIA national tournament. He would also garner impressive individual accomplishments such as:- NAIA All-American honorable mention all while playing under one of College’s all-time winningest coaches Dan Miles. After playing at OIT he would stay on as a member of the Coaching Staff and assist the team that would make it all the way to the NAIA National Championship game.

Coach Kromer went on to play professionally for 3 years in Germany for the Herten Loewen Lions Basketball Club where they would win 2 league championships within 3 years. He would later return as an Assistant Coach to the Club. After his professional playing career came to an end he accepted a position at South Puget Sound Community College as an Assistant Coach.

Coach Kromer has earned degrees in Business Management/Marketing from OIT (B.A) and his Graduate Degree in Athletic Administration from Idaho State University (M.S). He is married to Elsie Kromer.

“John brings many years of valuable experience to UCC Basketball both as a player and Coach professionally and at a high level in College. He will be a great asset to the Coaching Staff,” said Head Coach Daniel Leeworthy.
