Nursing Assistant Level Two (Acute Care) program is offered at Umpqua Community College (UCC) as a continuation of the Nursing Assistant Level One program.
This course follows the curriculum designed & approved by the Oregon State Board of Nursing for certification of Nursing Assistants 2-Acute Care. The course is designed to assist the Certified Nursing Assistant 1 (CNA 1) with developing the knowledge and skills necessary to become a Certified Nursing Assistant 2 (CNA 2), Acute Care. The CNA 2-Acute Care will be able to provide opportunities for optimal client independence and support behaviors that promote positive healing, and will be able to demonstrate to peers, the correct methods and model behavior needed to address client care needs on an individualized basis. The course consists of 64 hours of instruction: 40 hours of classroom/lab plus 24 hours of hospital based clinical instruction.
The student must “hold a current, unencumbered Oregon CNA 1 certificate, have their name listed on the CNA Registry and assist licensed nursing personnel in the provision of nursing care”. It is preferred that the student be employed as a CNA 1 at their current facility for the six-month period prior to the beginning of the course.
