What’s Happening at UCC

Highschool students from across Douglas County gathered for a full day of sampling a variety of careers in healthcare, in Jacoby Auditorium, Health Nursing and Science Center (HNSC), and the Tech Center, EMS program area.

Umpqua Community College (UCC) completed an extensive remodel of its library. This transformation elevates modern learning and offers a dedicated space for academic success. Upgrades were made possible as part of a $2 million grant from the U.S. Department of Education.

A new program stemming from a partnership between Umpqua Community College and Aviva Health – with funding from a $1,007,226 grant from the Oregon Higher Education Coordinating Commission (HECC) – will empower students interested in health care careers while addressing the need for local health care workers.

Ask Me About UCC

“What’s cool here at UCC, that I don’t think you have everywhere, is the community involvement.”

— Jaymen Bendele, Fire Science and EMS Student

“Imagine looking at a view and seeing all the places where you have worked over the years. There are not many fields where you can do that. We are planting the trees that will be harvested long after our career is over.”

— Isaac Cherry,  Lone Rock Resources forestry management intern, and upcoming UCC graduate

“My UCC teacher was super engaging and knowledgeable and interested me in criminal justice,” Melanie said. She remembers him showing a video for the Reserve Academy, which inspired her to join. “It helped expedite my associate degree by providing college credits, and I made a lot of career connections.”

— Melanie McManus, UCC Police Reserve Academy Alum
