President's Letter

The Umpqua Community College Foundation is entrusted with the important task of supporting UCC and its students by soliciting and investing gifts that can be used to accomplish these objectives. The UCC Foundation was created in 1970 because they realized that private monies could be used in ways that public monies could not. They saw the need to establish endowments that would grow and provide continuing scholarships for students now and in the future.

Over the years, generous donors have established more than 100 endowments to be used as an ongoing source of support for UCC. During the 2017-18 academic year, we were able to award 244 scholarships to 177 students. The financial support from these scholarships totaled over $475,000. The need for the Foundation’s support of UCC and its students has never been more apparent.

The Foundation’s ongoing efforts are governed by a Board of Directors made up of many prominent community members.  Their mission, like that of the Foundation, is to further Umpqua Community College’s mission through the strength and generosity of volunteers and donors.  To that end, the board is instrumental in overseeing investments and determining how the Foundation’s resources can best be utilized.

In 2015 the Foundation and UCC embarked on an ambitious project to build a state of the art Health, Nursing, and Science Center. The Foundation was instrumental in raising over $5,000,000 to support this project. The Bonnie J. Ford Center is now equipped with the latest technologies to help teach those students enrolled in Nursing, Dental Assisting and Science programs.

Investment of charitable or planned gifts with the Umpqua Community College Foundation are investments in the economic development and prosperity of Douglas County. Higher education transforms the potential of generations of families. Scholarships from the Foundation help to enable students’ access to higher education. Often, those students are the first in their families to have ever attended college. I invite you to join me in helping UCC students by showing your support for the UCC Foundation.
