2016 All Oregon Academic Team

UCC is pleased to announce that students Jasmine DuBose and Lorenzo Wilcox were selected to be among top 36 students statewide.

Thirty-six of the top students from Oregon's 17 community colleges were recognized on Tuesday May 3, 2016 for the high academic standards they have set for themselves and their fellow students. Each year the Oregon Community College Association sponsors an awards ceremony, in partnership with the Phi Theta Kappa honor society. More than $37 million dollars are awarded on a national level annually in scholarships to community college transfer students.

Umpqua Community College is pleased to announce that students Jasmine DuBose and Lorenzo Wilcox were selected to be part of this group of students. Both received scholarships through the All Oregon Academic Team and foundations around the area and state.

Jasmine is the face of UCC literally. She is the student that introduces the Umpqua Community College pre-orientation video. Jasmine is a martial artist that has lived in the Philippines and speaks Tagalog and a regional dialect from the Southern isles of the Philippines. Jasmine has her black belt in Tong Soo Do, a Korean martial art. This talented student came to Umpqua Community College as a part of the UCC Scholars program, and after graduation plans to transfer to Oregon Institute of Technology (OIT) where she will enter the competitive and well-respected Medical Imaging Technology program.

Lorenzo was born and raised in Lima Peru, moving to the United States when he was 10 to live with his father. He attended Riddle High School where he became involved in the school’s band and drama programs. After graduating from high school, Lorenzo’s education path led him to UCC. This member of the All Oregon Academic Team is currently a sophomore who is making great progress towards the completion of his Associate's Degree. After graduating from UCC, he plans to attend the University of Oregon to pursue a Master's degree in education. “I plan to become a teacher and help people succeed” Lorenzo proudly says of his educational goals.
