Cooperative Work Experience Program Details

Work experience at UCC is part of a Cooperative Work Experience program and is a method of instruction offering students the opportunity to earn college credit for development and achievement of learning objectives while on an actual job site. Training positions may be paid or unpaid.

Earning Credits for Your Hours Worked

A variable number of credits may be earned for each program, based on the number of hours worked per term in Cooperative Work Experience, based on your program requirements and limitations.

Approximately 1 credit towards your academic program can be earned for each 33-35 hours of work. Letter grades are also given for courses that are part of Cooperative Work Experience. View details on grading at UCC.

Your current job may qualify for work experience credit if the job directly relates to your curriculum, meets the guidelines set by the curriculum, and is approved by the instructor.

If you are looking to transfer to a university or another college, credits may transfer to other institutions depending on the curriculum. However, in most cases, the credits are transferred as electives. You are advised to clarify the transferability of credits with the institution you plan to transfer to.

How Credit is Applied for Work Experience

Students will have a Canvas online coursework website to record their work experience hours every two weeks. Instructors will be in touch to guide you along the way. You will define your own measurable tasks on what you plan to achieve using the downloadable Guide for Developing Learning Objectives.
