Umpqua Community College is the regional center for higher education in Douglas County, Oregon, proudly offering an ever-expanding array of in-demand college degree, workforce development, and community learning programs.
FWS is designed to provide part-time jobs for students with financial need to assist with paying for educational expenses. FWS is offered subject to funding availability to students who indicate an interest by submitting an interest form and who demonstrate financial need. FWS funds must be earned through part-time employment authorized by the Financial Aid Office. Students must be enrolled at least half-time (6 credits) in an approved financial aid eligible major or certificate. FWS can be offered during all four terms.
This needs-based employment program is available Summer, Fall, Winter, and Spring terms each award year. You must reapply by supplying the FAFSA and demonstrating eligibility each year to receive it.
If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Financial Aid.
Students will need to fill out the FAFSA and answer “Yes” or “I don’t know” to the question regarding interest in Federal Work-Study (FWS). This is needed to determine eligibility for a FWS position. If you have not filled out a FAFSA, apply online at fafsa.ed.gov and be sure to note your interest in Federal Work-Study. If you would like to change your answer on your FAFSA for your interest in Federal Work-Study you should login at fafsa.ed.gov and update your FAFSA application.
After applying for and completing a financial aid file with the school, the Financial Aid Office will send a Financial Aid Offer email. Students will be directed to review their offer online via their Student Self Service account. Once a student is offered FWS as part of the Financial Aid Offer, and is interested in employment, follow the instructions in the FWS Hiring Process.
Maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress and be continuously enrolled in 6 or more credits to remain eligible for FWS from term to term. Remember the offer is only valid for the academic year and/or term(s) indicated. Once funds are earned, and/or the academic year is over, FWS students must immediately stop working.
Supervisors must submit a time-sheet to the FWS Coordinator within two days of the end of each pay period. Late time-sheets will be carried over to the next pay period. FWS positions are paid via direct deposit or a mailed check.
Please complete the following time-sheet and turn it into your supervisor for verification and signature: FWS Time Sheet.
If you are interested having direct deposit setup please fill out completely and print off the Employee Direct Deposit Form and bring along a voided check to be turned in to the federal work-study office.
