“As a first generation college student, I faced some barriers when transitioning to college from high school, and had to learn to overcome them by myself.  I am originally from Indiana, and I wasn’t aware of TRIO programs until I moved to Oregon three years ago and started working in the education field in Douglas County.  Looking back now, I wish Upward Bound would have existed in my high school that way I would’ve been better prepared for the transition from high school to college.  I want to be the support to students that I wish I had back then, and now I can do that by working with Upward Bound.”

“As a former Douglas County student myself, I was so thankful to be involved in a TRIO program. I am an Upward Bound alumni and with their assistance, I found the TRIO program at my university. The Student Enrichment Program was so helpful during my time at Western Oregon University. I was a first-generation college student and TRIO helped pave the way to my degree. Now as an ETS advisor, I am so pleased to have the opportunity to share my knowledge and assist the youth of Douglas County. There is so much potential and I look forward to helping prepare the students for the transition from high school into post-secondary education.”

“As I have worked with students aged 11-20 for the past 10 years I have learned how important it is to have resources to help our students succeed. Upward Bound and Educational Talent Search are incredible programs that allow our students to explore their interests and provided them with opportunities they did might not have had before to help them get to college. I’m excited to serve our students in Douglas County and help them towards their future college goals.”
