The Engineering and Drafting Technician Completion Certificate program prepares students with the foundational knowledge and skills to work as a technician in engineering, architectural, public works, and construction environments.
The one-year certificate prepares graduates for entry-level positions as engineering or drafting technicians. The required courses in this program are included in the Civil Engineering and Surveying Technology degree, so any student who wishes may continue in the two-year AAS program.
The one-year complete certificate can also serve as a pre-engineering program, for the students that may want to continue in the Engineering Transfer program.
Students who successfully complete the Completion Certificate as an Engineering & Drafting Technician will:
- Participate effectively as a member of a technical team
- Utilize modern measurement technologies to acquire spatial data
- Demonstrate functional use of 3D computer-aided drafting and design software used for a variety of drawing techniques

Engineering and drafting technicians work with and provide technical support to licensed architects, engineers and surveyors. Technicians prepare design drawings and assist with field work. Technicians utilize knowledge of building materials, engineering practices, and mathematics to complete detailed drawings and to collect or evaluate data in the field. Theory and principles of design and graphics are implemented under the direction of engineering or surveying staff.
Occupational Skills Training
This program is available in an Occupational Skills Training format that is designed to mix school classes and on-the-job training with a potential employer. It’s great for hands-on learners! Individualized training plans are developed in consultation with the student, UCC faculty, UCC advisor, and the work site trainer.
