ROSEBURG, Ore., January 9, 2023 – The work of artist and University of Oklahoma associate professor Jason Cytacki will be on display beginning January 9 at Umpqua Community College’s Art Gallery.
Cytacki describes the paintings in his “Only the Lonely” collection as presenting “serene nocturnes of everyday Midwestern scenes.” In the scenes, dramatic lighting creates a cinematic atmosphere, and the specifically mundane imagery helps create a common experience that evokes a sense of ambiguous, yet relatable familiarity.
He added that the illusion he creates “dissolves upon closer inspection when visible details such as the corrugation of the cardboard and tape become apparent, suggesting fragility and artifice.”
The “Only the Lonely” series will be on display at the UCC Art Gallery from January 9 through February 9, 2023. Gallery hours are Monday – Friday, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. Admission is free.
More About the Artist
Jason Cytacki is an associate professor of Painting at the University of Oklahoma. He earned his MFA from the University of Notre Dame in 2011, his BFA from IUSB in 2009, and now lives and works in Norman, Oklahoma. His work has been exhibited both nationally and internationally. His work is represented in commercial galleries including JRB Art at the Elms in Oklahoma City and is part of the permanent collection of the Rockwell Museum in Corning, NY.

The UCC Art Gallery is located in the Whipple Fine Arts Building at Umpqua Community College, 1140 Umpqua College Road, Roseburg, OR, 97470. The Art Gallery is a 100 square-foot exhibition space that features six exhibitions per year, showcasing a variety of media from emerging to established artists. The primary focus of the Art Gallery is to exhibit high-quality artwork for the education and cultural benefit of the students of UCC and the residents of Douglas County.
