From GED to PhD

Justina MartinJustina Martin had dropped out of high school. She dreamed of being a teacher someday, and she knew she had to get back to school but wasn’t sure when or how.

One day she drove by the Woolley Center in Roseburg and saw a sign, “Earn your GED and get a free term of college at UCC!” She knew it was time to step back in and finish high school. Martin is now a teacher at the Woolley Center, helping other students step back in and earn their GEDs. She is also working on completing her Ph.D. in English, studying communication and online learning.

UCC Keeps Tuition as Low as Possible in a Time of High Inflation

Roseburg, Ore., April 21, 2022 – The Umpqua Community College Board of Directors has voted to raise tuition per credit from $104 to $109 for the 2022-23 school year, which for most students will be covered by increases in state and federal grant programs. The 4.8 percent increase falls well below the national inflation rate of 8.5 percent and UCC will still have one of the lowest tuition costs in the state.
