New to Canvas, or Just Need Some Help?

What is Canvas?

Canvas is the platform that UCC uses to deliver courses and course content online.

Where do I find Canvas?

All Canvas online courses can be accessed directly at https://umpqua.instructure.com/login

Where do I get my Canvas login and password?

Each student is assigned a Student ID upon admission to UCC. You will use this same Student ID (starts with 800xxxxxxx) and your initial password will be your 8-digit birthdate (mmddyyyy)

It is important to change your password once logged into the Canvas. It is recommended to change your Canvas password to match your Student Self Service password since they are not synced. Follow these instructions to change you password in Canvas. Contact This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. for Canvas password assistance.

How do I find my classes within Canvas once I am logged in?

Once you are logged into Canvas, you should see your current or starred courses on your Dashboard.  If you don't see a course, you may need to add it to your starred courses by clicking the Courses link in the left-hand navigation and then clicking on All Courses.  Click on the star to left of any courses that you want to display on your Dashboard.

When do online classes begin?

Canvas online courses begin the same day that face-to-face courses do each term. Depending on the instructor's preference, some courses may open a little earlier.

What happens if I don’t login to my online course the first week?

Instructors have the option to drop a student who registered for a class, but does not attend the first meeting. Students who do not wish to be dropped due to non-attendance should contact the instructor if they will miss any of the first week’s meetings. Instructors are not required to drop a student for non-attendance. Therefore, students who want to drop or withdraw from a class must initiate the drop/withdrawal process through the Office of Registration and Records. It is their responsibility to ensure the drop or withdrawal process occurs. If a student is registered for a class and they do not attend, they will be assigned a grade in the class and it will become part of their permanent record.

Where do I get my course books?

You will need to contact the UCC bookstore for your required textbook and materials for each course.
