Do it Now, Stay Clean

A student’s success is largely dependent upon their experience. Curt Sams was successful, and he explains why, “My experience at UCC was nothing short of amazing! The campus is beautiful, and the people are too. I learned so much from my professors and classmates. I met lifelong friends and valuable contacts at UCC.”

Curt SamsBut Sams’ early life was filled with troubles, drug abuse and time in medium security prison. While there, Curt had a change of heart, developed a positive attitude, and spent time in classes and mentoring other inmates. When released, Curt enrolled in UCC and started welding classes. He formed good relationships with his instructors and classmates. Sams points out, “Mr. Fisher, my welding instructor, was a huge influence on me. He restored my confidence and helped me build my skills. He was easy to talk to and never judged. I would also like to mention my classmate, Heather Lynn Branaugh-Gilbert. She became a close friend and helped me immensely with the transfer to dive school.”

Curt is preparing to enter a career in underwater welding, and his prospects look good. Says Sams, “My future looks amazing, and I have companies fighting over me. The job market is slow right now, but even entry level position are paying over $60k.” Based on his own experience, Curt Sams offers this advice to others, “Now is the time. If you want to do it, then do it now. And, stay clean.”
