- Oversees juveniles to ensure physical needs are met and that the facility is secure and order is maintained.
- Provides on-line supervision of juvenile clients under the supervision of higher classifications; gives practical advice or guidance to juveniles and keeps other staff informed of such.
- Documents activities and observations using a computer.
- Prepares incident reports; consults with co-workers regarding clients.
- Instructs, supervises and participates with residents in daily work or recreational activities.
- Assists other staff in providing and documenting activities.
- Anticipates hostile behavior of juveniles and resolves conflicts; reports to shift leader; assists in crisis intervention.
- Instructs juveniles on rules and procedures.
- Checks for illness or injury; distributes meals, clothing and bedding as needed and assists with other necessities.
- Provides fill-in coverage due to absence of other staff or additional staffing requirements.
- Transports juveniles as needed.
- Reasonable knowledge of juvenile behavior and human relations; ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written forms.
