Annual Exhibit Showcases Student Work

ROSEBURG, Oregon – The Art Gallery and the Fine and Performing Arts Department at Umpqua Community College (UCC) are proud to present the 2019 Student Art Show. This year’s exhibit features more than 100 pieces of art made by UCC students during the 2018-19 academic year.

About 50 to 75 students submitted their artwork for the 2019 Student show. The awards reception for the Student show was held in the Art Gallery on Thursday, May 16. A returning student and ceramics artist at UCC, Anthony Stevens, said I’m excited to be participating in the exhibit. There’s a lot of great work on display and obvious time and effort put into the set-up.

Two UCC students received a Jurors Choice Award for excellence and a $150 check during the awards reception. Susan Rochester, UCC’s Fine and Performing Art’s Chair, said the awardees are both the type of people who sticks it out and keeps going.

Artists and UCC students Devon Martin and Archer Janzen each received an award and a check for their outstanding artwork and dedication.

The Student Art exhibit opened May 17 and expects to close June 7. The gallery is open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday, in the Whipple Fine Arts Building.
