CTE Signing Day: A National Success

ROSEBURG, Oregon – On Feb. 21, thousands of students at 62 schools across the country took part in the National Coalition of Certification Centers (NC3) National CTE Signing Day. Umpqua Community College (UCC) participated in the national event-welcoming 20 new students who signed a letter of intent to attend UCC for the 2019-20 school year.

As friends and family members watched, the incoming students inked their letters while being welcomed to the College by their respective instructors and program chairs. The students committed by signing with the following CTE programs:

Sponsored by NC3, the event mirrored the NCAA’s National Signing Day for athletes who commit to play sports in college. The College was one of four Oregon colleges to host a signing day event. Locally, UCC partnered with Douglas Education Service District (ESD).

Melody Cornish, the CTE regional coordinator for Douglas ESD, said she felt the event was a success and hopes to continue the concept each year.

“Our local students need to know that the trades and other CTE-related careers offer great jobs that will lead them to future success and will also support the needs of our local communities by providing valuable services, she said.

The event was streamed live on UCC’s YouTube Channel. Watch the signing day highlights video.
