Gearing Up for Startup Weekend 2018

ROSEBURG, Oregon – Startup Weekend Umpqua Powered by Google for Entrepreneurs is returning to Umpqua Community College (UCC) from Friday, April 20 through Sunday, April 22. This year’s theme is What is your side hustle? The question is to get participants thinking about what drives their passion, or to examine what they are already doing on the side that they may want to develop into a business.

Startup Weekend, which is in its fifth year, is an opportunity for people to take their business idea from concept to creation in one weekend. Participants pitch their idea to the group on Friday evening starting at 6 p.m. Teams will then form around the top 8 to 10 ideas. On Saturday and Sunday, participants gather information, meet with coaches, push boundaries, and share ideas so that by Sunday evening they are ready to make their pitch to event judges for the win.

All meals, caffeinated beverages, and snacks are provided for participants. In order to provide participants maximum information and access, coaches and volunteers from the Douglas County business community will be on hand to help.

The business-building weekend will be held at the Danny Lang Teaching, Learning and Event Center, which is located on the main UCC campus. Learn more by visiting www.startumpqua.com. There is a discount code for UCC students and staff.
