On-Court and Off-Court Performers

ROSEBURG, Oregon – Congratulations to Coach Dave Stricklin and the UCC women’s basketball team. To top off a record-breaking, historic season on the court, the team was recently recognized by the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) for its performance in the classroom.

The Lady River Hawks finished with a 3.374 Grade Point Average, which was good enough for the #5 ranking in the WBCA Top 25 Team Honor Roll. This final ranking was the highest in program history, eclipsing the #6 ranking of the 2016-17 team.

“We’re proud of the fact that we really emphasize it,” Coach Stricklin said. “We have study hall, we have grade checks. We try to recruit ‘student’ athletes, not just athletes. And so it’s good to see that their hard work and commitment to it pays off and is recognized.”

The WBCA Academic Top 25 recognizes NCAA Division I, II, and III, NAIA and two-year GPAs inclusive of all student-athletes on their rosters for the entire season. The 2017-18 season is the 23rd in which the WBCA has compiled the honor rolls.

“The WBCA is pleased to recognize those women’s basketball programs that have committed themselves to excellence on the court and in the classroom,” WBCA Executive Director Danielle Donehew said. “The 119 teams we honor this year strive to achieve all-around success and we commend their efforts. Congratulations!”
