Remembering a Long-Time UCC Supporter

ROSEBURG, Oregon – Umpqua Community College (UCC) is remembering a long-time College supporter and friend. Roseburg resident Jean Loosley passed away on Sunday, June 24, at the age of 92. Along with being a donor and former UCC Foundation Board member, she is the mother of Steve Loosley, who is the current UCC Board of Education Chair.

An Oregon native, Jean was born in Bend and raised in Summer Lake on a cattle ranch. She attended Oregon State University and graduated with a degree in Business and Accounting. She and her husband John married after graduation in 1948, and moved to Roseburg in 1952.

Jean held various office manager jobs in Roseburg. She worked in the retail and logging industries. After the Loosleys purchased Roseburg Paving Company and Beaver State Sand & Gravel/Ready Mix Concrete, Jean worked in the family business until they sold in 2000.

Jean was an active community volunteer who always found the time to give back to the community. She served on the UCC Foundation Board, the Douglas County Library Foundation Board, and a number of other community groups.

Her generosity to UCC will always be remembered through the John & Jean Loosley Scholarship Endowment and the John & Jean Loosley Food Wine Pairing Room in the Danny Lang Teaching, Learning and Event Center. In 2010, she and John received the UCC Foundation Donor of the Year Award.

Jean’s Celebration of Life will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, June 30, at Redeemer’s Fellowship in Roseburg. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made to the UCC Foundation, the Roseburg YMCA Capital Fund, or the Benevolence Fund at Redeemer’s Fellowship.
