Rough Crossing Set to Make Waves

ROSEBURG, Oregon – Cruising for tickets to Umpqua Community College (UCC) Theatre Arts Department’s latest production? Nooooo problem! Rehearsals are underway for Rough Crossing, a silly play by Tom Stoppard.

All aboard the luxurious SS Italian Castle. Join two co-authors (Jessie Cooper and Beau Moser, above right) and a composer (Kevin Jeffries) who are crossing the Atlantic with their starlet, Natasha (Zoe Krause); their leading actor, Ivor (Ian McGowan); and a stowaway (Robert Mountainspring-Wood, above left) who is posing as a cabin steward. All are on their way to Broadway with a mediocre play.

Composer Adam discovers that his love Natasha is dabbling with Ivor. With Adam too upset to work, the co-authors must now convince Adam that the two stars were rehearsing a new version of their play. Writing up hilarious new plot twists, with song and dance, everyone frantically tries to solve the love triangle (and the new show!) before landing in New York. Top it all off with a cabin steward who keeps drinking everyone’s cocktails, and you have a wacky night of fun.

The show is guest directed by retired drama teacher Brad Allen, and also features the talents of Angela Sulffridge, Hailey Harrington, Ashley Stark, and Chantelle Smith.

Rough Crossing opens Friday, May 11. Performances are Fridays and Saturdays at 7 p.m., and Sundays at 2 p.m. through May 20, in Centerstage Theatre in the Whipple Fine Arts Building.

Tickets are on sale online at tickets.umpqua.edu, or by calling the UCC Box Office at (541) 440-7700 during regular business hours. Tickets are $13 for adults; $10 for seniors over 65/veterans; and $8 for UCC students with ID and children under 18.
