Student Artists Shine in Annual Showcase

ROSEBURG, Oregon – The Art Department and the Art Gallery at UCC proudly present the 2018 Student Art Showcase. This exhibit features more than 100 pieces of art made by transfer art class students during the 2017-18 academic year.

The works on the walls and pedestals represent hundreds of hours of work, experimentation, failure, and revision on the part of our student artists.

“Given the cuts to arts in K-12 schools over the past few years, it isn’t unusual for us to have students in our classes who have never had a formal art class,” Susan Rochester, UCC’s Fine and Performing Arts Chair, said. “Their efforts and commitment to the learning process shine in this exhibit.”

This year sees the return of the popular Viewer’s Choice award. Please take time to vote for your favorite work before Thursday, May 24. The popular vote winner will receive a $100 cash award. Other awards, selected by an outside judge, are given for best 2D and 3D works.

The exhibit opened Monday, May 14. There will be an awards reception on Thursday, May 24, from 12:30 to 2 p.m. The exhibit closes on Thursday, June 7

Gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays, and evenings during music and theatre performances in Centerstage Theatre located in the Whipple Fine Arts Building.
