Three Generations Pursue Their Education at UCC

As the son of UCC Nursing Alumnus Stuart Anderson (1979), Nathan began his UCC journey as a child by attending plays in Jacoby Auditorium. His early experience inspired him to become a student at UCC and earn his GED and then an A.A.O.T. degree which created a path for him to transfer to Portland State University, where he received his bachelor’s degree, and then on to Indiana State University where he earned his master’s degree. Education provided him with stability and earning potential to raise his two children and opened the door for him to return to UCC and give back by working as a Job Corps instructor.

“The wonderful staff and faculty I met along the way not only made my degree possible but gave me the support and encouragement to finish strong,” said Nathan. “Benjamin Franklin once wrote that ‘An investment in knowledge pays the best interest.’ For me, Umpqua Community College has been the best bank I’ve ever used.”

This fall, Nathan’s son will begin attending UCC as he pursues a degree in computer science. “As a second-generation UCC alumnus, I’m proud beyond measure that he will follow in his father’s and his grandfather’s footsteps in pursuing his education. He’s seen firsthand the benefits education can bestow and is excited to begin his own higher education path. He’s confident in his choice of investment, and I know UCC will support, guide, and mentor him through each step he takes.”
