UCC Foundation 3rd Annual Legacy Ball

ROSEBURG, Oregon – The Umpqua Community College (UCC) Foundation held its 3rd annual Legacy Ball on Friday, Nov. 2, at Seven Feathers Casino Resort in Canyonville. This year’s theme was the Great Gatsby called Celebrating the Success Education Provides.

More than 450 guests enjoyed an evening of food, entertainment, and dancing. Thanks to generous sponsors and community members, the event raised over $167,000 that will go toward UCC student support.

During the event, student and scholarship recipient, Joyce Blair, shared how receiving scholarships impacted her ability to return to school to pursue her dream.

The Foundation has helped me by opening up so many opportunities for my future that are ultimately going to better my children’s future, Blair said. If the scholarship department didn’t exist, I would not be here. I cannot financially afford to better educate myself or my children without the help of others.

The evening’s special appeal raised $46,000 toward a $75,000 goal to purchase a new tractor for UCC’s Truck Driving Program. With the dire need for truck drivers in Oregon and the nation, UCC’s program needs a tractor equipped with the gears, safety features, and current technology that students will be expected to use in the workforce.

The UCC Foundation was established in 1970 to further Umpqua Community College’s mission through the strength and generosity of volunteers and donors. The UCC Foundation provides, on average, $450,000 in scholarships to UCC students each year, in addition to providing support for capital building and academic programs.
