Employees

Fall In-service: During the annual September in-service, employees receive training regarding the Board Approved tobacco, alcohol, and drug use policies and procedures at UCC. One of the topics discussed is substance abuse prevention. Employees are reminded of the assistance and resources available to them. Additionally, employees will also be assigned recommended courses through SafeColleges addressing substance abuse prevention during in-service, and upon hire.

New Employee Orientation: Orientation days are scheduled throughout the year for new employees, at which time updated program information and resources are made available to them.

Students

Orientation: During orientation, students are introduced to the resources available to them that help address drug and alcohol use and abuse issues.

Campus Life Programs:  Campus Life programs are designed to provide students with a range of opportunities to enhance their quality of life. October is National Substance Abuse Prevention Month, a time in which educational programs will be offered to employees and students. Additionally, during the month of April, programs will be presented in support of Alcohol Awareness Month. Programs will be delivered through various venues to include campus life activities, lectures, educational materials, and films/documentaries.

Safer Steps Safer Students: Available online, the program provides the opportunity for students to learn about Alcohol and Drug Awareness.

Counseling Services: The UCC Life Coach is available to work with students who have concerns with drug and alcohol related matters. Where necessary, appropriate referrals are made to community agencies for more in-depth treatment.

Alcohol Abuse

Umpqua Community College provides crisis intervention and referral services for students and employees who present issues with alcohol use and abuse. These services are provided through Reliant Behavioral Health (RBH) for employees and the UCC Life Coach for students.

The College provides education and awareness programs that address the affects and dangers of alcohol abuse.  These programs are offered at various times throughout the academic year at the main UCC campus. Off-campus locations are encouraged to attend these events.

Drug Abuse

Umpqua Community College provides crisis intervention and referral services for students and employees with drug use and abuse. These services are provided through Reliant Behavioral Health (RBH) for employees and the UCC Life Coach, with referral to ADAPT, for students.

If someone needs assistance because of alcohol and/or drug use, UCC provides access and information for faculty, staff, and students. These programs provide education, consultation, assessment, counseling, and referral support in a professional environment that respects individual confidentiality and promotes health education. UCC faculty and staff may utilize the Employee Assistance Program (EAP) through Reliant Behavioral Health at 866-750-1327. UCC s faculty and staff may access information through Counseling Services on campus or at (541) 440-7900.
